Burkina Faso is updating its national cartography
The country of Burkina Faso is updating its mapping at a scale of 1:200,000, much like Senegal did recently. Tunisia's aerial cartography: the training beginsTraining sessions for the Tunisian personnel of the CNCT (National Centre of Cartography and Remote Sensing) and the OTC (Office of Topography and Cartography) that are meant to help the implementation of an Intergraph DMC camera continued in France with a week-long session at Moulins in the Allier region. The Tunisian Ministry of Defense signed a contract in 2009 for the acquisition of an aerial photography aircraft (F406 from Reims Aviation Industries of the GECI Group) and a digital video camera (DMC I) and sent four aircraft photographers (Captain Gasbi and lieutenant ESSAFI for the CNCT and Mrs. Hetem REBAI and Hichem BEN MOUSSA for the OTC) to France in early September for a practical training session organised by IGN FI. After visiting the Aerial Activities Department of the French IGN in Creil on the first day, the trainees moved to the airfields of MOULINS-BEUGNY where the APEI (Aéro Photo Europe Investigation) company is based and has been operating two DMC video cameras for several years now. Two of APEI's aircraft photographers led the training session using both theoretical and practical exercises to illustrate the entire image acquisition process:
With the help of favourable weather, each trainee was able to participate in several flights and to operate the camera him or herself, under the supervision of the trainer. The trainees were also able to perform processing with a pixel size ranging from 5-20 cm on several photographs taken during the training flights. |

The updating of this geodetic network clearly stands out as a priority defined in the action plan created by the government for the period from 2010-2020. Even though each city had its own local network, these networks were not connected to each other, nor were they united on a national level. They were not at all compatible with modern positioning technologies, more specifically with GPS. Read the rest of the press release on geodetic supervision in Cameroon
