ALMA PROJECT (ARABLE LAND MONITORING AND ASSESSMENT), Egypt |
The ALMA projet focused on assessing the gains and losses of arable land in the Nile valley The two time periods compared were 1985 and 2005. This 20-year period is long enough to allow a significant assessment of the evolution of arable land, as well as to analyse its rhythm. The data collected in this way allowed the Ministry to have an objective and reliable idea of this phenomenon that could eventually lead to the implementation of an appropriate policy. CIPA PROJECT (CROPS INVENTORY, AGRICULTURAL ACREAGE AND YIELD ESTIMATIONS), Egypt |
The CIPA project focused on the study and estimation of agricultural acreage and yields of Egyptian agriculture over the Nile Valley and Delta, using a statistical approach. The goal of the project was to provide reliable information to the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture that would be helpful for the management of the agricultural policy and give a better understanding of the Egyptian agricultural production potential. This project, covering the entire Nile Valley and Delta, included a crop inventory, acreage estimation, yield evaluation (wheat and cotton), inventories of the different types of irrigation and the monitoring of the infestation of drainage and irrigation canals by water hyacinths. |
