	DEMARCATION OF THE LAND BORDERS AND DETERMINATION OF OFFSHORE BORDER LINES, Saudi Arabia/Qatar
	The State of Qatar and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia decided to modify the border lines for part of their common border. The existing border lines were demarcated in 1996-1998 and mapped by IGN France International. Ten years after the completion of this first demarcation of the border between Saudi Arabia and Qatar, IGN France International, export subsidiary of the French National Geographic Institute (IGN), has been awarded a new tender that will carry on from the previous project. IGN France International will indeed be supported by the technical skills of several of IGN France's departments, benefiting from their expertise in geodesy and levelling, the acquisition and processing of satellite images, the production of orthoimages and 2D restitution, not to mention the Cartographic Department which will work on the land and sea mappings aspects of the project. 	POST-TSUNAMI: AIDE A LA RECONSTRUCTION, Sri Lanka
	The SIIRM (Spatial Infrastructure Reconstruction Monitoring) project began after the tsunami that devastated South East Asia in December, 2004. The goal of the French consortium was to provide Sri Lankan authorities with up-to-date cartographic data and GIS solutions in the urban planning field. The consortium, composed of the Groupe FIT, FIT Conseil and IGN France International provided data that formed the basis for cartographic applications and GIS oriented toward the reconstruction effort and the development of urban priority zones, notably in the eastern and southern parts of the island. SIIRM allowed the Sri Lankan authorities to implement a spatial data infrastructure that was a key element of the post-tsunami management, all with the help of the technical support provided by the French consortium. • *Creation of maps from ortho-images backed by Quick Bird and Spot5 images •* *Revision or production of maps integrating the spatial data linked to the reconstruction effort (1:5.*,000, 1:10,000) • Analysis of old data (GIS) • Definition, structuring and implementation of the SIIRM database • Transfer of savoir-faire • Standardisation of geospatial data • Fourniture Provision of equipment, photogrammetric workstations, software (Geoview®) • Technical assistance Download the post-tsunami project sheet
	CREATION OF CATASTROPHE MANAGEMENT CENTRES, Indonesia
	Led by a consortium composed of Astrium, Infoterra and IGN France International, this projet involved the establishment of a national catastrophe management centre in Jakarta as well as three regional centres. Each centre is equipped with different communication tools that allow contact between the different regional centres and the field teams, as well as between the regional centres and the main centre in Jakarta. These four centres were also equipped with a catastrophe management and information systems that allow the visualisation of the maps of crisis locations and their evolutions. They also allow the optimisation of the procedure to be put in place in order to best manage the urgent situation. Download the catastrophe management project sheet
	UPDATING OF A MAP USING SATELLITE IMAGES, Serbia
	IGN France International completed a pilot project for the Serbian military cartographic institute. The goal of the project was to prove that it was possible to update a basic map at 1:25,000 using Spot5 satellite images with 2.5 metres of resolution. The update, completed in only 3 weeks, was a success. Go back to the references homepage
	MARKING THE INTERNATIONAL BORDER, Qatar/ Saudi Arabia
	The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the State of Qatar made a political agreement concerning their border and their territories and decided to mark their offshore border in the Salwa bay. IGN France International was chosen for its impartiality and for the accuracy of its work. • *Constitution of a new local geodetic network* • Comparison with the two existing national networks • Determination of the exact position of six main border points • Calculation of geodetic lines between these points and choice of secondary points along the lines to ensure intervisibility Download the border demarcation project sheet
